Friday, the de facto President, Jocelerme Privert undertook the commissioning of one of the three turbines of the hydroelectric power plant of Péligre, who had never received so far, such important rehabilitation works since 1971 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14320-haiti-reconstructionthe-work-at-the-central-peligre-are-more-and-more-expensive.html

The activation of this first turbine will produce 18 megawatts of electricity additional which will be routed to the industrial area of Port-au-Prince, at the Central Plateau and in some northern cities.

This work follows the signature between the Haitian government, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), of a loan agreement for the rehabilitation of turbines and transmission line of the energy produced in the Central Péligre to the substations in the metropolitan area https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-4935-haiti-energy-$48-8-million-for-the-rehabilitation-of-peligre.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12768-haiti-politic-$237m-for-the-rehabilitation-of-the-peligre-transmission-line.html

The Head of State praised the work done by EDH and the support of its partners, including the French Government through the firm Alstom, the IDB, the German government and OFID. While wishing that the equipment will always be well-maintained, the President Privert expressed the wish to see also happen as soon as possible the repair of other two turbines (36 megawatts), to remove the country of a significant burden in terms of fuel consumption and leakage of currencies.
