Haiti - Politic : For Deputy Bodeau rising fuel prices is a Crime !

Following the decision of Government Privert to increase fuel prices at the pump of 30 gourdes for Gasoline and Diesel and 25 gourdes for kerosene https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18374-haiti-flash-strong-increase-in-pump-fule-prices.html , the Deputy of Delmas Gary Bodeau, Quaestor of the Office of the Lower House, in a statement demanded the withdrawal of the government's decision of raise fuel prices.

Statement of Deputy Gary Bodeau :

"My brother and sisters, you who live in a difficult situation in Haiti today, the statement that I do is not for accusing anyone, to ccuse the government, but to ask for more transparency in a set of decisionwhich are taken in an extremely difficult transition period.

Last weekend, the Government increased fuel prices in the country in a very difficult time when we are at one week of the school year and no provision was made to support the population on the occasion the reopening of classes.

So the increase of 30 gourdes on gasoline, 30 gourdes on diesel we consider it as a crime.

It is true that the law requires that every time the oil price rises on the international market it is necessary that there is an adjustment, but the adjustment there, it crosses the line. This adjustment will penalize the population [...]

We believe it is necessary that there be provisions to be taken quickly, this is what makes that at the Parliament this afternoon [Monday 22] we request a Conference of Presidents to the extraordinary to address the issue of fuel [...] There has been no Council of Ministers, this decision is a unilateral decision by the Minister of Finance with the de facto President.

Whatever adjustment there, the population will suffer it in his daily life when it pays its route of public transport, when it send its children to school... It is inconceivable to one week of the school year, that is taken an irresponsible decision like this.

In consultation with deputies and senators, from tomorrow [Tuesday, August 23] we will take positions on this issue and a resolution at the Chamber of Deputies and in the Senate also for the Government to be able to retract this anti-humanitarian decision, a decision that can not be consistent with the interests of the people"
