Haiti - Dominican Republic : Negotiate agreements with Haiti is counterproductive

Following the official visit to Haiti of the new Dominican Chancellor Miguel Vargas Maldonado August 30 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18477-haiti-flash-haiti-will-lift-road-transport-ban-for-dr.html Pelegrin Castillo, Dominican Vice President of the radical opposition party "National Progressive Force" (FNP), warns that negotiate agreements with the Haitian government "less than provisional" is a futile effort and counterproductive, whichchallenges the Dominican ability to learn of a long history of failures and non-compliance with the agreements by Haiti.

Moreover, Castillo is questioning the effectiveness, sustainability and the consequences of a decision by a Haitian government whose legitimacy and the base is extremely precarious.

"The Dominican leaders should not bow to the demands of foreign powers, especially the United States who are the first to have known that Haiti was a failed State," stressing "the irresponsibility and cynicism of the international community, which only sought to hide the sum of its failures in Haiti."

"[...] It is true that in the US, there are very powerful sectors who do not want noise in Haiti before the November elections, but this should not be a reason to continue to participate the masquerade of the supposed new phase of Dominican-Haitian relations and nurture false hopes, that there exists a Dominican solution to Haiti's problems," said Castillo.

The leader of the FNP warned the Dominican Government, that it can not and should not continue to assume the role of pivot State in relations between the two countries, to promote the plans of a cynical international community, which does not respect the rights of Haitian or Dominican and only seeks to avoid or minimize its responsibility.

Finally, Pelegrin Castillo expressed strong reservations about the fulfillment of the promise of the Government of Haiti to document 140,000 Haitian nationals by the end of October https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18486-haiti-news-zapping-politics.html https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18265-haiti-politic-the-chancellor-promised-passports-to-haitians-in-the-dr.html .
