Haiti - Humanitarian : The Government requests the international and NGO assistance

Following the passage of Hurricane Matthew on Haiti, the Haitian Government has appealed for assistance to the international community, more than 300,000 people may need immediate assistance, according to the United Nations.

Haitian authorities have requested in particular assistance of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and their partners and other humanitarian actors.

For its part, the teams of Handicap International already in Haiti, are mobilized and prepared to act according to the needs 'We are about to face a major situation. Our teams already on site preparing in order to assess the situation and consider an emergency response to affected populations, according to the needs," declared Jean-François Michel, head of Handicap International operations for Haiti.

At the request of the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) "Handicap International" will focus initially its action on logistical support. If necessary, the association also plans to provide emergency rehabilitation care and provide psychosocial support to those injured and affected families.

Recall that since 2008, the Association Handicap International is present in Haiti in Port-au-Prince, in the communes of Delmas and Carrefour and in the Departments of Nippes, of Artibonite and North.

Let's recall that in Haiti, the Association especially intervened on the tens of thousands of lives during the earthquake of January 2010.
