Haiti - Agriculture : Heavy preliminary assessment

The engineer agronomist Arnoux Séverin, Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR) from the initially available information, observed the extent of damage caused by the passage of Hurricane Matthew over the Haitian territory, particularly in the departments of Grande Anse, South, Nippes, Southeast and Northwest. Plantations whave been destroyed, cattle heads were washed away, irrigation infrastructure, of drainage and transport were damaged, the processing and packaging storage units have been severely affected.

The Ministry of Agriculture presents its sympathies to the victims and inform all farmers, fishermen, agricultural entrepreneurs, developers and craftsmen, that steps have already been taken to conduct damage assessment as well as the implementation of a response plan to relaunch the agricultural sector activities in the best delay.
