Haiti - Matthew : The government is stepping up efforts to assist victims
The Government is stepping up efforts to support and assist the victims of the 7 departments struck by the devastating Hurricane Matthew.

Over 51.1 million gourdes (+/- 775,000 US dollars) has been disbursed from the emergency fund and transferred tocommunities. The government conveyed by land, particularly towards the departments of Great South and Northwest, more than 120 tons of non-food products and more than 468 tons of foodstuffs (including 165 tons of rice and 130,000 liters of water).

Moreover, according to new distribution strategies of humanitarian assistance of the Ministry of the Interior and Territorial Communities, https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18993-haiti-politic-new-distribution-strategies-of-humanitarian-aid.html , more than 200 tons of aid are being sent by sea and air to the Great South coasts and inland, with the support of local and international partners.

Also, the boat "Pelican" which left Port au Prince Tuesday has already supplied the communes of Dame-Marie and Abricots and continues its path towards Anse d'Hainault, the Irois and Tiburon to be supplied this Friday 21 October. A second ship, "Holland", has left the harbor of Port-au-Prince on Wednesday evening in the direction of Petit-Trou de Nippes, Grand Boucan and Corail in the Grand Anse.

Staff of the Directorate of Civil Protection and representatives of departmental Associations of Casec, are also on board these ships to ensure a proximity distribution impartially and in an orderly manner.
