Haiti - Education : 4% of schools across the country, damaged or destroyed 24/10/2016 12:44:44
According to this last report, 774 schools have been affected at the Matthew passage, slightly more than 4% of the 17.828 schools surveyed across the country (Statistical Yearbook 2013-2014 of MENFP). Eight out of ten departments are affected by the damage, with the exception of North and Northeast. Number of school-affected by department : Grand'Anse : 217 school out of 786 ; South : 171 out of 1,451 ; Nippes : 228 out of 744 ; South East : 33 out of 1,143 ; West : 22 out of 6,213 ; Artibonite : 26 out of 2,445 ; Centre : 4 out of 1,406 ; North West : 73 out of 1,134. Respectively, 31% and 28% of pre-school, fundamental and secondary school of Nippes and Grand'Anse are either destroyed or damaged. To date, 8 schools have been rehabilitated.
