Friday in Los Rieles Copey, municipality of Manzanillo (province of Monte Cristi), a group of Haitians illegally entered Dominican territory across the border, after having refusing to obey a Dominican military patrol, attacked the patrol, fatally wounding of several stab wounds, Captain Manuel Belliard Felipe, 49, and wounding his colleague Sergeant Major, Jeremías Mateo Espinal, 34, stealing a gun and other property.

Rushed to a clinic in Monte Cristi, the Captain Felipe did not survive his injuries.

In the evening, the Ministry of Defense Dominican reported that CESFRONT (Cuerpo Especializado de Seguridad Fronteriza y Transporte) had arrested three of the five undocumented Haitians, the authorities identified as the perpetrators of the assassination of Captain Felipe. The alleged perpetrators were handed over to the prosecutor of Monte Cristi for legal suites.
