Haiti - Elections : American Congratulations

Following the publication of the preliminary results of the presidential election of November 20, giving a large victory in the first round to Jovenel Moïse candidate under the banner of PHTK (55.67% of votes) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-19370-haiti-flash-preliminary-results-1st-round-elections-20-november-2016.html , U.S. Republican Senator Marco Rubio (Florida) and Congressman Frederica S. Wilson congratulated Jovenel Moïse for his victory.

"I applaud the people of Haiti and their determination to hold free and fair elections despite the devastation of Hurricane Matthew, and congratulate President-elect Jovenel Moïse.

The United States must continue to support a democratic, prosperous, and stable Haiti, and help the Haitian people as they recover from this latest natural disaster.

Florida is home to a vibrant Haitian community, and I remain committed to being a voice for them in the U.S. Senate" declared U.S. Senator Marco Rubio.

For her part Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson declared "Under less than ideal circumstances, the citizens of Haiti on November 20 helped their nation take an important step toward governance. I applaud Haiti for achieving its goal to hold the election in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew and congratulate Jovenel Moïse, the apparent winner of the presidential contest. District 24 includes one of the nation's largest Haitian communities and I look forward to working with Haiti as it continues moving forward."
