The expulsion process for foreigners living illegally in the Dominican Republic and not registered in the National Regularization Plan for Foreigners (PNRE), which ended in July 2015,has continued for 17 months without interruption.

From June 2015 to 20 November 2016, according to information made available by the Directorate General of Migration in Dominica combined with those of human rights organizations monitoring the process at the border, more than 183,000 people living in irregular migratory situations in the Dominican Republic, (99.5% of Haitians, men, women and children) would be returned to Haiti deported or "voluntarily".

Note that this estimate does not take into account an unknown number of Haitians who crossed the border through unofficial border crossings and could not be registered at the border.

In addition to Haitians, nationals of 22 nationalities (about 0.5% of the total number of people deported) were also returned to their country of origin during this period (Cubans, Indians, Albanians, Ecuadorians, Americans, Chinese, Nigerians, Brazilian, German, Colombian, Finnish, French, Italian, Czech, Venezuelan, Russian, Jordanian, Spanish, Ghanaian, Taiwanese...)
