Haiti - Culture : Petit-Goâve changes the date of its annual Carnival

For strategic and economic reasons, the Carnival ("dous makòs") of Petit-Goâve, traditionally held in February, will be held now the first week of August, along with the patronal feast (Notre Dame), announced the main Mayor of the commune, Jean S. Limongy, pending the publication of a communal decree officially fixing the new date of the carnival.

The Mayor recalls that Petit-Goâve attracts mainly local and international tourists during the period of the patronal feast of Notre-Dame and rather than having a carnival at the same time as the others throughout the country, it would be more judicious to realize it at the time of this summer festival, which will generate for the commune, according to the mayor, many more visitors and tourists and more economic benefits.

However, it reassures the residents of Petit-Goâve that during the 3 fat days (26, 27 and 28 February) the city will organize activities and parades in some streets of the city and walking bands will be allowed to stay in the Carnival mood.
