Haiti - DR : Dominicans militarily strengthen their border

Rubén Darío Paulino Sem, the Dominican Minister of Defense announced that following the confirmation of the date of the definitive departure of the Minustah in Haiti, of measures to strengthen security along the 391km of border and increase Military staff have already begun and will continue progressively until November 2017. Underlining "On October 15, 2017 the Minustah will have left Haiti, we, as armed forces, we will implement the necessary equipment and personnel of both the army and CESFRONT (Cuerpo Especializado de Seguridad Fronteriza) to strengthen our border [...]"

Sigfrido Pared Perez, the Director of the National Investigation Department (DNI), expressed his concern at the withdrawal of troops from the Minustah, particularly the 400 UN troops assigned to Haiti's border surveillance, awithdrawal which, according to him, poses a threat to the security of the Dominican Republic...

In addition, Paulino Sem informed that since Sunday, 17 April, the Dominican migration services have returned to Haiti, nearly 7,000 Haitians in an irregular migratory situation on the Dominican territory.
