The official ceremony will be attended by, among others, the Prime Minister, Jack Guy Lafontant, members of the Cabinet, the Speaker of the National Assembly Senator Youri Latortue and Vice-President Cholzer Chancy, members of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ), representatives of the diplomatic and consular corps, representatives of the major organs of the State, local authorities, parliamentarians, members of civil society and representatives of farmers and social organizations.

The Caravan of Change is a key element of the Government's strategy to promote the revitalization of the agricultural sector, the environment sector and the transport sector. Initiated by the Head of State. Launched on 1 May 2017, the activities of the Caravan will continue for 5 years throughout the country and end on 7 February 2022.

Objectives :

  • Improve the access conditions to irrigation water by mechanically clearing irrigation and drainage canals and extending these canals to previously non-beneficial areas;

  • Sanitation of swamp areas and protection of flood-prone areas in villages and towns affected by periodic flooding;

  • Make best use of the material and human resources available to the State of Haiti to carry out these actions;

  • Encourage other synergistic actions to maximize the effects and impacts of the caravan on government action;

  • Help increase domestic production to improve food security and increase the country's wealth.

30 loader diggers, 10 bulldozers, 7 loader, 40 trucks, 5 graders, 5 compactors, 3 back loaders, 2 workshop machines, 20 motorcycle projectors, 12 service pickups, 5 water trucks and 5 function vehicles are already deployed in the Artibonite, notably the large perimeter of the Artibonite Valley Development Organization (ODVA).

Over the next two months, 197 kilometers of irrigation canals and 87 drainage channels will be cured, and 100 kilometers of agricultural roads will be rehabilitated in the Artibonite department. President Moïse assures that these operations will make it possible to develop 20,000 hectares of additional land to the 12,000 hectare currently under cultivation, which will make it possible to regain the level of arable land of the 50s...
