Haiti - Diaspora : TPS position of President Jovenel Moïse 05/05/2017 10:06:18
While nearly 60,000 of our compatriots in the United States under the Temporary Protection Status (TPS), which expires on July 22, are facing the threat of expulsion following the negative recommendation of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-20727-haiti-flash-us-immigration-service-recommends-the-end-of-tps.html ; President Jovenel Moïse, speaking of Haiti's socio-economic and humanitarian situation, spoke out clearly in favor of a further 18-month extension of the program. He believes that the country is unable to welcome our brothers and sisters with dignity, it would only aggravate the situation and that Haiti needs time to improve the socio-economic conditions of the population.
Antonio Rodrigue, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that Haitian diplomacy was on the front line and was working tirelessly. Instructions were given to the Haitian Ambassador to Washington, Paul Altidor, to obtain all the necessary support to try to influence the decision of President Trump, adding that he had personally met influential personalities in the Haitian community of Washington and New York for this purpose.
