Haiti - Education : Threat of unlimited strike
On Monday, at the call of the National Union of Normaliens Haïtiens (UNNOH) many public schools followed the call to strike to demand better working conditions as well as the payment of wage arrears of 2,691 teachers of public schools with a letter of appointment and who have never been paid...

In the capital the majority of high schools were emptied of their teachers who had taken the streets although some high schools have managed to function despite everything. In Miragoâne and Gros-Morne high school students went down to the street and tried to force their comrades from private schools to solidarize, to demand the presence of teachers in the classrooms while the state examinations are fast approaching...

At midday, José Mérilien, UNNOH's National Coordinator, said the strike was respected and was satisfied with the first day.

On Tuesday, the second day of the strike, the demonstration will begin in front of the "école normale supérieure" in Port-au-Prince, before going to Parliament after a stopover in front of the Presidential Palace, precise Mérilein which recalls that it is two days of warning and that an unlimited strike will be launched on May 17 if nothing is done to satisfy their demands.
