Haiti - Politics : Good news for the identification of Haitians
For decades, the Haitian State has faced a serious problem related to its inability to identify all citizens on the national territory and to provide them with a secure identification document respecting the protection of privacy with regard to the processing of personal data. Consequence of citizens do not have identity papers to assert their civil and political rights.

In order to find a solution to this serious problem, President Jovenel Moïse and the Government Lafontant adopted a bill in the Council of Ministers instituting the Unique National Identification Card (CINU - Carte d’Identification Nationale Unique) on the protection of personal data ( Smart card with biometric data).

This law states that now the identification of national will be at birth and sanctions are provided for those who have not made the statement relating thereto (10.000 to 250.000 gourdes fines and up to 6 months in jail) depending on the responsibility of the person concerned in the chain of responsibility.

With this law, each child will receive a birth certificate from birth, giving him an Unique National Identification Number (NINU - Numéro d’Identification Nationale Unique) that it will keep for life and which will have the same coding structure as the Tax Identification Number (NIF), NINU will replace the NIF.
