Haiti - Economy : Inflation continues towards the 15%

During the month of April 2017, the Consumer Price Index (100 in August 2004) was 301.5 compared with 298.3 the previous month, thus showing a monthly growth rate of + 1.1%, what represents a slight deceleration compared to the monthly change of + 1.2% in March. However, inflation continued to grow year-on-year with +14.6% against 14.3% in March 2017.

The monthly increase in inflation is mainly the result of the behavior of consumption functions: "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" (+ 1.1%), "Clothing, fabrics, footwear" And Water (+ 1.6%), "Equipment and Maintenance of Housing" (+ 0.8%) and "Health" (+ 2.1%).

The positive change in the "food, beverages and tobacco" index, which accounts for more than 50% of the household budget, result among others from millet (+ 4.5%), corn grain (+ 1.3%), (1.9%), eggs (+ 1.1%), coconut (+ 2.9%), bananas (+ 2.0%), giraumon (+ (+ 1.6%), cabbage (+ 1.9%), onion (≠ 1.1%), eggplant (+ 2.5%), (1.3%), tomato (+ 1.0%), yam (+ 1.8%), malanga (+ 1.8%), potato (+ 1.7%), potato (+ 2.2%), lemon (+ 2.0%) and refined sugar (+ 1.3%).

The increase in the "Clothing, textiles and footwear" index is particularly linked to fabric prices (+ 2.4%), clothing, and the universal jacket (+ 1.8%), shirts (+ 3.0%), (2.1%), dress (+ 3.1%), pants and sheath (+ 2.5%), clothing (+ 1.8%), shoes and tennis (+ 1.9% Of the sandals (+ 2.1%).

The increase in the "Rent for Housing, Energy and Water" index is mainly due to the rise in housing rent (+1.8%), water supply (+ 1.0%) and charcoal (+ 1.6%).

The upward trend observed in the "Accommodation, Equipment and Maintenance of Housing" index follows the increase in the price of living room furniture (+ 1.5%), dining room (+ 1.1% (1.7%), bed linen (+ 1.4%), curtains (+ 3.1%) and tablecloths (+ 0.9%).

Finally, the increase in the "Health" index is particularly linked to the rise in fees paid to doctors and hospitalization costs (+ 3.3%).
