Haiti - Politics : Senate ratifies Student Credit Act
Senators ratified in first reading the law on access to student credit in Haiti, tabled in Parliament last April. The Act specifies in one of its articles that "Student credit is a consumer loan granted to a person enrolled in a cycle of professional and university studies to finance its studies for a period not exceeding five years [...]"

Sen. Youri Latortue, one of the bearers of this law, insists that these loans [maximum of 500,000 gourdes] will allow young people wanting to carry out professional or university, to have access to bank financing "This law will solve the problem of young people, not wishing to go to public universities, by giving them the financial means to open the doors of private universities."

The text will now be sent to the Chamber of Deputies for ratification in the same terms before being sent to the Executive for publication in the official newspaper "Le Moniteur" before its entry into force, which could take place next October if there is no change...
