Haiti - Humanitarian : New houses for 48 families in Grand Ravine
Tuesday, 1 August, was held the ceremony for the handing over of keys and titles of occupation of 12 buildings with 4 apartments each, representing a total of 48 housing units, to forty-eight deprived and vulnerable families living in Ravine Vasquez in Martissant.

These dwellings are part of the project launched in February 2013, implemented by "Concern Worldwide" and "Catholic Relief Services Haiti" in Grand Ravine, as part of the Support Program for the Reconstruction of Neighborhoods (PARAQ) of the European Union https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-15967-haiti-reconstruction-eu-makes-a-positive-assessment-of-its-support-program-paraq.html

The Chargé d'Affaires Matt Woods, representative of the European Union Ambassador, Vincent Degert, at the event declared "The European Union is pleased that today we are able to offer all these families a decent new home to live and raise their children [...] Through the actions that are implemented with our partners, we are also working to improve the overall neighborhood environment. Even if major challenges remain, it is a matter of pride to see concrete improvements on the ground for the benefit of the inhabitants."

Let's recall that among the others r accomplishments carried out in collaboration with the community and local authorities, we can mention the construction of several community infrastructures (including the Ravine Vasquez canals), the reinforcement of ravines and public spaces, the creation of nearly 2,000 temporary jobs, professional training for 60 people, livelihood activities such as a bakery for 39 young women, installation of nearly 250 streetlights in four Martissant neighborhoods, planting more than 3,000 trees, all guided by the 25-year Urban Development Plan for Grand Ravine, designed in 2014 and approved by the government and the community.
