Haiti - FLASH : Balance of the Earthquake in the Central Plateau

A young man was wounded in Lascahobas during the magnitude 4.3 earthquake on the Richter scale, which occurred Saturday afternoon in the Central Department. Robentz Antoine, 18, was rushed to the La Colline health center.

The earthquake caused a panic at the maternity of Belladère, without causing any casualties. A house was badly damaged at Carrefour Flandé, at the entrance to the city of Lascahobas. Also in the Center, five houses and the National School of Deny were also damaged in the 4th section Sarazin, in Mirebalais.

The Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) of the Ministry of the Interior and Local Government takes this opportunity to remind the population that Haiti is in an active seismic region. Indeed, the country is traversed by a group of faults, of which the two greatest known are the fault of the peninsula of the South and the northern fault, which runs along the north coast of the country. Recall that the earthquake was recorded Saturday to 4h14 pm , its epicenter located 11 km southwest of Thomonde and 13 km northeast of Mirebalais, in the Central Plateau. The epicenter has not been located on any major fault known in Haiti, said the Technical Unit of Seismology (UTS) of Haiti. At least three departments, including several cities in the West and Artibonite, have felt it https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21992-haiti-flash-earthquake-of-43-in-the-central-plateau.html

The DPC invites families and communities to continually prepare for seismic risk. For its part, it is committed to continuing to promote the existing building seismic standards for construction among professionals, and also the households. It intends to reinforce public education and awareness campaigns, the response capacities of its structures throughout the country and to contribute to the strengthening of the seismic monitoring network.
