Haiti - FLASH : Transport strike widely followed
Monday the warning strike against the budget https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22135-haiti-flash-moise-asserts-his-authority-and-publishes-the-budget.html initiated by the Association of Haiti Owners and Drivers (APCH) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22123-haiti-flash-national-strike-announced-in-the-transport-sector.html supported by several other transport unions (the "Plateforme Nationale des Syndicats de Transports Fidèles", the "Réseau des Syndicats pour la Modernisation du Transport en Haïti" and the "Commission Nationale des Transports Publics") as well as the political forces of the opposition (which will be in non-stop demonstration for 4 days starting tomorrow Wednesday https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22126-haiti-news-zapping.html ) has been widely followed in the metropolitan area and several provincial cities.

Most of the businesses were closed, including informal businesses (with the exception of a few supermarkets and petrol stations), as well as schools, because of the lack of transportation, they could not go to class or had stayed home for security reasons... Government offices were technically open, but employees were limited in number because they could not get to their workplace. The traffic was paralyzed on several axes of the capital deserted of their the tap-tap, bus, taxi and taxi-motorcycle... Some buses of Dignité offered a free transport service https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22144-haiti-flash-transport-strike-the-state-ready-to-react.html were observed in several places in the capital as well as a strong police presence on foot and on patrols in strategic locations.

According to our information, the strike seems not to have been respected in Jacmel and Cap-Haitien where an important police device was in place.

In some areas, especially in the center of the city, burning barricades were reported, as well as stone throwing on private vehicles which were still attempting to circulate.

Other strikes and demonstrations will be organized this time demanding the departure of the Head of State, if he continues to ignore the citizens, said trade union representatives who invites the President to stop lying to the population.

Renald Lubérice, the Secretary General of the Primature r, refers the ball saying that "it is the opposition that is only lying to the population by conveying false information about the budget..."

The Prime Minister Lafontant, who assumed the interim during the absence of Moïse in the United States for the week https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22146-haiti-politics-president-moise-in-new-york.html congratulated the police and other State institutions for their efforts to ensure the safety of all on this day of strike.
