Haiti - Politic : Towards a transformation of border communities
Following the intersectoral workshop of reflections on the problematic of the border band last August 11th https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21800-haiti-politics-workshop-on-the-development-of-the-border-area.html Aviol Fleurant, the Minister of Planning and External Cooperation met this week the elected officials of border communes on the development strategy and development of this territory.

In his opening remarks, Minister Fleurant expressed President Moise's interest in transforming communities in the border area by providing public investment funds to gradually foster the growth of these communities and confirmed that the government administration is committed to transforming the image of these areas, which are generally described as underdeveloped, in a sustainable way.

Fleurant has invited the mayors to share the development prospects for their communities according to their potential so that they are included in a plan for economic and social development of the border area that the Ministry of Planning is in charge to design in the context of an inclusive approach.

During this meeting, Peretz Ebert Peltrop, the Director of Spatial Planning, Local and Regional Development (DATDLR) of the Ministry made a presentation of the border strip in its many dimensions and submitted to local elected representatives the major strategic orientations and programmatic axes. For their part, the mayors gave the Minister Fleurant their communal plan and took the opportunity to pose the problems both common and specific to their communities.

Luma Démétrius, the President of the Association of Mayors of the Border Zone hopes that this exercise will be part of a perspective of improving the living conditions of the border population. He also invited mayors to arm themselves with strength and courage to be the promoters of this development that we keep talking about...

This meeting was part of the government's efforts, to update the diagnosis of the border strip, to finalize its development strategy and of planning and develop a multi-sectoral project.
