Haiti - Elections : The first reactions to the results
The publication of the final results of the first round of elections, giving winners Mirlande Manigat and Michel Martelly, has generate many divergent reactions, expressing, disappointment, anger, satisfaction or indignation...

OAS :
The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, expressed recognition and respect for the final results of Haiti's first electoral round, announced this morning by that country's Provisional Electoral Council (CEP). "The CEP is, according to Haiti's laws and Constitution, the sole agency authorized to announce the results of the presidential and parliamentary elections" adding that"we hope the results are received by everyone in an environment of trust and tranquility"...

Minustah :
Edmond Mulet, Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in Haiti, welcomed the official announcement of final results on February 3, 2011. "This important step which has been reached within the framework of the current electoral process should put an end to a period of more than two months of uncertainty for the Haitian people, who went to the polls on November 28 and expected, since the results of the exercise of their right to vote." Edmond Mulet reiterated the willingness of the United Nations to support the CEP and the Government of Haiti in the next steps of the electoral process and in particular, as regards the arrangements to ensure the smooth running dn, transparency and credibility of the latter...

Youri Latortue :
Sen. Youri Latortue, of the Colection COREH, which supports the candidacy of Mirlande Manigat, said that the CEP was forced to publish the results...

Daniel Supplice (Advisor of Martelly)
The sociologist Daniel Supplice, a political advisors of Michel Martelly, said that "the CEP has finally released Thursday the results that reflect the popular vote. He believes that these results will help to solve the post electoral crisis"...

Supporters of Martelly :
Michel Martelly supporters have indicated that there would be no violence because "the results were announced in the direction we wanted." However, they said that they did not trust the Head of State, they require the departure and the arrest of the latter...

A minister :
"It's a cabal of the the club of ambassadors who have decided that the candidate of the president should be rejected [...] we can not continue to accept the pressure of the street decides the electoral process," said a Minister furiously under cover of anonymity...

Collective for the cancellation of elections :
The Collective of candidates for the cancellation of the elections indicated that it was not concerned with "the so-called results" that are likely to put the oil on the fire. Nikel Pierre one of the responsible of the Collective, has promised further mobilization to reach the departure of President René Préval, the establishment of an interim government and the holding of new elections...

Paul Denis :
Wednesday morning, Paul Denis, the Minister of Justice and leader of the Platform INITE, vigorously denounced the international community. "They have taken the results in their pockets, they act as colonists, but there are men and women in this country who require to be treated with dignity"...

Black Caucus :
Emanuel Cleaver II and Donald M. Payne, representatives of the Black Caucus (black elected to Congress) have stressed in a statement Tuesday that "if the U.S. wants to play a role, the public integrity recommends we do for others what we would do for our own citizens : enable them to participate equitably in the democratic process" taking position for the cancellation of the elections of 28 November 2010...
