During a press conference at his official residence, Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant revealed the existence of zombie checks in two Ministries, a fraud amounting to several million gourdes, citing the Ministry of Health, defrauded for a total amount of nearly 25 million Gourdes and that of Education for nearly 40 million... Without giving more details on the mechanism, sdervices and directorates involved or the beneficiaries because of ongoing investigations and to avoid fleeing the culprits, limiting themselves to stating that the investigations had already allowed several people to be arrested in these cases.

Moreover, he spoke of corruption and denounced surcharging practices discovered inb these ministries, a practice of multiplying the real costs of a product or service on a pro-forma several times, and then illegally pocketing the difference...

While reiterating that the fight against corruption is the priority of his Administration, Prime Minister Lafontant says that the Government will apply a policy of zero tolerance vis-à-vis corruption and justice will prevail against all those who are guilty of raud or corruption, while recognizing that the battle will not be easy to win.

Recall that these new revelations come a few weeks after the discovery of a network of counterfeiters within the Ministry of the Interior, another fraud of several million gourdes
