At the end of the meeting the two Presidents gave a joint press conference to the Élysée during which the French President declared and promised...
Press conference, excerpts from Emmanuel Macron's statement :
"[...] he is welcome and I am very happy to have exchanged with him of international topics that we have in common, as well as on bilateral topics [...]
This first interview allowed us to salute the quality of the Franco-Haitian relations and to express our common will to work for the change essential to the recovery of his country and the improvement of the living conditions of its population.
I would also like to acknowledge the very important work being done by the President in the fight against corruption, the reinforcement of the rule of law and the full support of France in this context.
I welcome the fact that, in the coming days, a headquarters agreement with Expertise France can be finalized, which will make it possible to work on this issue, as well as the bilateral initiatives that have been taken in terms of training of the public service and high Haitian Haitian civil service, which is an important element of the structuring of the rule of law.
Our wish is also to be able to consolidate international aid with regard to France, and also to consolidate the share of French investments in Haiti.
Haiti is one of the priority countries of our cooperation and we attach great importance to the bilateral relationship in this context.
I think that here too, all the work with the international donors that the President conducts is extremely structuring in this area, like the discussions that began with the IMF [International Monetary Fund https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-22835-haiti-news-zapping.html ] and the reforms to provide a framework for foreign investment.
In terms of education, the action plan established in 2015 will be fully implemented with 50 million euros announced and in terms of climate change the work carried out for two years has allowed to led to the Green Fund. With the $30 million watershed adaptation and management project, Haiti could become one of the first if not the first country to get an adaptation project under this Green Fund. We agreed to accelerate the work in terms of public works, in terms of electrification and to accelerate the bilateral cooperation which will also allow the realization of concrete projects.
Finally, I hope that we can also intensify our relationship in the framework of the regional cooperation and Caricom that Haiti will exercise the Presidency from January 1 to [...]
I repeat here to the President our wish, that French companies come to invest more in Haiti, we will push them by punctual initiatives and accompaniments. I believe that all the reforms you are conducting on the rule of law, the investment framework and the modernization of the economy will make it possible to work effectively in this direction."
Press conference, statement by Jovenel Moïse :
"[...] I feel a great satisfaction of my meeting with President Emmanuel Macron on a set of topics of interest for our two countries. Haiti and France have strong ties of friendship and solidarity. We fully share the vision expressed by President Macron. Haiti believes that development is a decision and a national process.
During our discussions, we agreed to strengthen trade links between the two countries, cooperation in education at all levels, especially higher education and vocational training and also the capacity of Haitian State institutions to better face the challenges of development.
I take this opportunity to applaud President Macron's leadership and deep commitment for the holding of the climate finance summit, two years after the historic Paris agreement on climate change. Haiti strongly supports a sub-regional mechanism to enable island states to better adapt their economy, their environment to the effects of climate change.
You can count on us, we are working to ensure that French, as we have said it well, which is our official language, is also the language of Caricom and we are working for our brothers from Martinique and Guadeloupe, can also participate in this great movement of Caricom, because Caricom, they are countries of the Caribbean and I think that Martinique and Guadeloupe are also part of the Caricom.
