Haiti - FLASH : Chaos, anger and confusion on the border market of Dajabón 16/01/2018 06:54:55
On Monday day of the binational market of Dajabón, the Haitian authorities intervened to try to enforce the decision to prohibit entry into Haiti of 23 Dominican products https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-15156-haiti-notice-import-ban-by-road-of-certain-products-from-dr.html . This situation is one of the factors that will lead to the bankruptcy of Haitian and Dominican traders, who to sell on the market make loans in banks, cooperatives and other commercial establishments [formal and informal] and who will not be able to repay their debts," stating that they will organize a meeting in the objective of trying to find a solution to this situation... Fernando Diaz, President of the Association of Market Vendors, is aware that this is not new from the Haitian authorities, but that by continuing to want to maintain this measure, traders and carriers risk again to block and paralyze the border, with all the social-economic consequences on the population, road transport on both sides of the border and the resulting violence...
