The intervention of the Haitian authorities has caused chaos in the binational market for several hours and anger among traders especially on the Haitian side.

The businessman Abigail Bueno also President of the Association of retailers of Dajabón, reiterated Monday that this measure was "an abuse on the part of the Haitian customs authorities and was unfair", because it affects only the small Haitian traders and the poorest people, while this measure not only benefits large Haitian traders who bring these goods legally by sea or air, but also promotes the growth of smuggling."
