The Technical Unit of Seismology (UTS) of the Bureau of Mines and Energy (BME) associates with the Ministry of the Environment and the Permanent Secretariat for Risk and Disaster Management (SPGRD) to inform that two light earthquakes of magnitude 3.29 and 3.11 on the Richter scale were recorded yesterday, Tuesday, January 16, 2018 to and 03 seconds (local time) and at 3:20 and 23 seconds in the afternoon.

The epicenter of the first earthquake was located about 7.5km north of Fond des Nègres, 11.8km south-east of Anse-à Veau and 18.5km west of Miragoâne, in the Nippes Department, at a depth of 19 km.

The epicenter of the second earthquake was located about 14km north-east of Belle Anse in the Southeast Department.

No damage has been reported by local authorities for these two seismic events.
