Haiti - Economy : +0.8% inflation in December 2017

For the month of December 2017, the General Consumer Price Index (base 100 in August 2004) stood at 327.2 against 324.6 the previous month, showing an increase of 0.8% in monthly rhythm, slightly lower than the previous month + 0.9%. On a year-over-year basis (last 12 months) inflation stands at 13.3%, slightly better November 2017 or inflation was 13.7%.

The monthly rise in inflation of + 0.8% is mainly the result of the behavior of consumer functions: "Food, Beverages and Tobacco" (+ 1.0%), "Clothing, Textiles and Footwear" (+ 1.0%), "Health" (+ 1.3%) and "Other Goods and Services" (+ 1.1%).

The positive change in the "Food, Beverage and Tobacco" index, which accounts for more than 50% of the household budget, result, among other things, from the price increase of : meat, on average (+ 1.8%), of coconut (+ 2.2%), avocado (+ 1.1%), banana (+ 1.5%), giraumon (+ 1.4%), lilies, pumpkins (+ 1.5%), eggplant ( + 1.8%), cabbage (+ 1.5%), onion (+ 1.0%), carrots (+ 1.2%), tomatoes (+ 1.0%), yams (+ 1.2%) , malanga (+ 1.1%), cassava (+ 1.2%), potatoes (+ 1.3%), potatoes (+ 1.2%), real trees (+ 1.4%), orange (+ 1.3%), papaya (+ 1.3%) and lemon (+ 1.4%).

The rise in the "Apparel, Fabrics and Footwear" index is linked particularly to the prices: of the fabric (+ 1.1%), the suit, the universal jacket (+ 1.2%), the shirt (+ 1.7%), the trousers for men (+ 1.1%) and clothing (+ 1.6%).

The increase in the "Health" index is due to prices: corrective glasses (+ 2.8%), Physician fees (+ 1.8%), laboratory analysis and X-ray (+ 1.4%) and Hospitality hospitalization fees (+ 1.4%).

Finally, the increase in the "Other Goods and Services" index is attributable to higher prices of : soap (+ 1.8%), toothpaste (+ 3.1%), body cream ( + 1.2%), beauty care (+ 2.2%) and watch (+ 1.4%).
