Haiti - FLASH : Cost of the Dominican visa, explanations of the Consulate

Following the reactions of anger and misunderstanding provoked in Haiti by the announcement last Friday, February 2, of the increase of more than 50% of the price of the multiple Dominican Visa of one year (most wanted by Haitians) which costs now 350 dollars https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23472-haiti-flash-bad-news-the-cost-of-dominican-visa-increases-by-more-than-50.html , the Consulate General of the Dominican Republic in Port-au-Prince explained itself.

César Antonio Cuevas Pérez, the Minister Counselor at the Dominican Consulate confirmed that the total amount of the invoice to be paid for a multiple visa was $ 350, but that this was due to the increase in the price of VISA which remained unchanged, but because of the addition of compulsory insurance of $ 150, which applies to all types of visa (tourist, resident and student) regardless of the nationality of the applicant, with the exception of those holding a North American visa (USA and Canada) and for the 26 countries of the European Union (Schengen visa).

According to a document relating to this insurance, which is issued by the Dominican insurance company "BBA Corp." It covers the repatriation of foreigners to the Dominican Republic, funeral repatriation and medical expenses, including: medical assistance for pre-existing illness or accident (up to $10,000), medical expenses for emergency pregnancy ($300)... For pregnant women traveling to the Dominican Republic this insurance will cover all their expenses.

For the students, the Minister Counselor Pérez confirms that the VISA remains free, however as they will remain one year on the Dominican territory, they will have to pay this compulsory insurance to be protected in case of illness.

In summarizing the price does not change, but the bill increases to $350, and for the students the free VISA will now require paying $150 compulsory for the insurance. A way for the Dominican authorities to reduce the bill by nearly 8 billion pesos annually https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21694-haiti-dr-nearly-8-billion-pesos-in-hospital-care-and-services-for-haitians.html that cost them the irregular situation (3 billion) and the care of Haitian pregnant women (5 billion) who come to give birth illegally in the Dominican Republic.
