Haiti - Economy : Transactions in Gourdes, the Economic Forum writes to the Minister of Commerce
Following the Order imposing the obligation to make commercial transactions on the territory in Gourdes, the operators of the Private Sector Economic Forum sent a letter dated March 2, 2018, to the Minister of Trade and Industry Pierre Marie Du Meny, in order to clarify certain points and preconditions with a view to avoiding problems when applying this decision. Letter that we invite you to share.

Mr Minister

It is with astonishment that the private operators and the public in general have become acquainted with the decree obligating to label commercial transactions in the territory in the national currency, which is the Gourde, adopted by the Council of Ministers February 28, 2018 and published in the official newspaper Le Moniteur No. 38 Thursday 1 March 2018 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23701-haiti-politic-obligation-to-carry-out-all-commercial-transactions-in-gourdes.html

The undersigned associations, members of the Private Sector Economic Forum, took note of the clarifications provided by the national authorities at the press conference of Friday, March 2, 2018, during which they announced that this order will be the subject of circulars of application specifying the details of its implementation https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23715-haiti-news-zapping.html .

Concerned by such a decision, the undersigned associations request responsible bodies that an official statement confirms this decision and come to specify that this decree will not come into effect without the publication of these circulars. They request that their content take into account the specificities specific to each sector and branch of activity.

As part of the preparation of these circulars, the signatory associations request the organization of consultations with the relevant associations of the private sector, in particular the Professional Association of Banks (PDB), the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Haiti (CCIH), the Association of Industries of Haiti (ADIH), the Tourism Association of Haiti (ATH), the Association of Insurers of Haiti, the Maritime Association of Haiti (AMARH), the Franco-Haitian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CFHCI), the American Chamber of Commerce in Haiti (AMCHAM).

Being convinced that you will understand the merits of our request, the undersigned renew to you, Mr. Minister of Trade, the assurance of our highest consideration.
