The ceremony was attended by several personalities including President Jovenel Moïse, his wife Martine, Fritz Caillot Minister of Public Works, Senator Hervé Fourcand, representatives of the National Airport Authority (AAN), travelers flight and local elected officials.

As announced last January https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-23176-icihaiti-spirit-airlines-soon-new-non-stop-flights-fort-lauderdale-cap-haitien.html , after American Airlines in 2014 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-12192-haiti-economy-more-than-a-plane-a-door-opened-for-development-in-cap-haitien.html , Hugo Chavez International Airport will be another destination for Spirit Airlines to provide transportation to Fort Lauderdale / Cap-Haitien; Cap-Haitien / Fort Lauderdale. This new flight is Spirit's second destination in Haiti, after the existing service to Port-au-Prince (since 2004). The flights will operate 3 times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, all year round.

The leaders of Spirit Airlines and those of the AAN are convinced that this new direct air route will boost the tourism sector and the economy of the second largest city in the country.

Senator Dieudonne Luma, who was aboard this first flight, accompanied by her chief, Carl K. Almonacy, applauded this initiative, which will create opportunities for local youth, for tourism and cultural investors, broadly for the community of North.

"The city of Cap-Haitien has a historical and tourist renown, which is why it is necessary to encourage and adopt a policy of openness to allow its full development," said President Moïse.

Stéphane Gilles who represented the Consulate General of Haiti in Miami, one of the passengers of this inaugural flight wished that the link woven by this new direct air link strengthens the relations between the United States and Haiti and that it will open the door the development of more commercial, cultural and tourist opportunities for Haiti and its partners in the international community.
