Haiti - Taiwan : Donation of 6,100 metric tons of rice
Thursday Cheng-Hao Hu, Ambassador to Haiti of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and Mgr. Ogé Beauvoir, Executive Director of the NGO Food For The Poor in Haiti, signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Central Office of the NGO in Port-au-Prince in the presence of Stéphanie Auguste, the Minister of Social Affairs of Haiti and the directors of the various departments of the Ministry.

In this agreement, the Republic of China (Taiwan) pledged to give 6,100 metric tons of rice of which 500 tons will go to the Ministry of Social Affairs. These shipments of rice will be made in 7 shipments starting in May and going until November 2018.

This rice donation that will provide 53 million meals will be distributed by "Food For The Poor" to sponsored programs, including the charity canteen located in Port-au-Prince where nearly 15,000 hot meals are cooked and distributed 6 days a week.

"This partnership with the Government of Taiwan gives Food For The Poor the opportunity to feed children, the elderly and the sick. This gift of rice will help "Food For The Poor" fulfill its mission to help the poor," said Monseigneur Beauvoir in his remarks of circumstance.

In his speech, Ambassador Hu declared "Food For The Poor is a renowned international organization, dynamic and visible in Haiti since 1986 in many projects and I am convinced that this rice will be well distributed to people in need like always."

Since 2007, Food For The Poor has received more than 32,000 metric tons of rice in Haiti through Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
