The Haitian Red Cross (CRH) informs the general public that the National Center for Blood Transfusion (CNTS) is in high demand for O-negative blood group (O-). So far CRH has not been able to respond to these requests. The CNTS does not have this blood group available and is launching an emergency national blood donation appeal for the O-negative group in particular and all donors in general to donate blood at blood transfusion stations in their cities and at the National Blood Transfusion Center located at the Digicel building in Turgeau every day. Lymphatic Filariasis : massive campaign of drugs On Tuesday, Alyssa Leggoe, Director of Health at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID - Haiti), joined the Director General of the Ministry of Public Health and other government colleagues to announce the launch of a mass drug administration campaign in 5 communes of Port-au-Prince to prevent lymphatic filariasis a parasitic disease commonly called elephantiasis or "big foot" that anyone can catch with a simple mosquito bite and that can lead to permanent disability and disfigurement.
