Thursday at the Viva Rio center at Bon repos, the new Minister of the Interior, Reynaldo Jean-Marie Brunet https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24212-haiti-politic-the-new-minister-of-the-interior-takes-office.html accompanied by his Director General, Fednel Monchery closed four days of training workshops for trainers in risk and disaster management and conflict management, for 90 participants : directors, censors and teachers from selected schools on a sample of 18 public establishments, spread over six comunes in the metropolitan region, namely, Port-au-Prince, Delmas, Pétion-ville, Cité Soleil, Tabarre and Croix-des-Bouquets.

These workshops organized jointly by the Coordination of Civil Protection, the Haitian Community Police and the Brazilian NGO Viva Rio from 23 to 27 given by experienced trainers, doctors, specialists in risk management and disasters, as well as in conflict management, alowed to taught the actors of the direct school system skills to protect themselves in the event of natural disasters, to manage emergency situations, to make the first rescue actions, to intervene in case of fires, as well as to solicit effectively the intervention of concerned relief institutions and save lives.

In his speech, Minister Brunet underlined that his experience as Mayor of the commune of Carrefour makes him able to understand the approach of civil protection officials and the need to carry out this training, especially as the hurricane season begins on June 1st.

Brunet affirmed that he has always attached great importance to training and raising awareness in the context of the mobilization of the population for the prevention and management of risks and disasters. It also encourages the initiative to train trainers and pledges all its support for the duplication of this initiative throughout the national territory, with a view to strengthening the capacity of the population in relation to major natural hazards and increase its resilience.

Note that at the end of these training workshops, funded to the tune of US $ 15,000 by the NGO Viva Rio, certificates of participation were given to the education professionals who took part in these workshops.
