Haiti - Environment : Workshop on access to the Green Climate Fund

The Ministry of the Environment (MDE), through the Climate Change Directorate (DCC) intends to conduct a series of monthly workshops to inform its departmental and central directors, who represent the technical arms of the Ministry, about the work and studies conducted on environmental issues in Haiti.

Joseph Ronald Toussaint, the Cabinet Director of the Minister of the Environment, recently opened the first workshop in the presence of James Cadet, Director of the Climate Change Directorate (DCC).

In his intervention Toussaint explained that this workshop is a positive step of Haiti towards access to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), stressing that this workshop is a sign that the MDE wants to ensure full ownership and consideration needs at the local level, with a cross-sectoral approach.

James Cadet for his part situates this workshop among the essential activities to be carried out to inform and integrate the various technical and deconcentrated departments of the Ministry with a view to strengthening the coordination and climate governance at the national level and facilitating the mobilization of participants at the national level, as part of GCF training and consultation sessions.

Recall that the Green Climate Fund created on December 11, 2010, is a financial mechanism of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change which has the mandate to promote development with low greenhouse gas emissions. To gain access to this Fund, Haiti, with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) through the READINESS program, is launching a series of activities to inform stakeholders on this fund and the financing opportunities. These activities also aim to collect the necessary information in terms of adaptation and mitigation needs in order to develop the country program to be submitted to the Green Climate Fund.
