Haiti - FLASH : Production of passports «drop by drop» in Haiti ! 12/06/2018 10:17:55
Joseph F. Cianciulli, the Director General of Immigration and Emigration (DIE) confirms that to control the passport stock and avoid stock-out at the Lalue Center only humanitarian passports or cases of extreme urgency are issued, confident that the situation will be restored within two weeks, Cianciulli ensures that there is no need to worry... Since January the production collapsed because the order of new booklet would not have been passed in time by the State according to internal sources of the DIE, for others it is the German company which manufactures the secured booklets who would not have delivered and for others finally there would be a delay of payment towards the supplier. Anyway, the result is the same, the passports are not available and it is the population who is paying for it, and the claimants expect this document to be less and less patient, far from Moïse' promise to deliver the passports five days after the request. At the Center of Reception and Delivery of Identity Documents (CRLDI) Champs de Mars, the office delivers an average of only about 50 passports per day for lack of booklets... The list of pending passport applications that had been resorbed in 2017 (120,000) now risk rebuilding and plunging the applicants back into hell...
