Through its second state budget support program (2018-2021), the European Union supports and accompanies Haiti in its program of economic reforms, modernization and revitalization of the functioning of the State. In this context a first payment to the Treasury account of 30 million euros, or 2.3 billion gourdes, has been approved today by the European Union. This payment will be effective at the next EU-CELAC ministerial meeting, which will take place in Brussels on 16-17 July.

"As we pledged at the signing of the Convention last March, we are very pleased to be able to pay this first tranche of budget support to the Haitian state. This first disbursement supports the government's efforts to achieve a series of reforms needed to stabilize public finances and improve their management, "said EU Ambassador Vincent Degert.

The overall agenda for state reforms supported by the European Union includes the stabilization of the macroeconomic framework and further reform of the PFM system, including improved transparency and budget control. There are also concrete actions to increase the efficiency of public administration, provide better quality education and strengthen the means and capabilities of civil protection.

Remember that this second budget support program (SBC-II) provides for a total budget of 120 million euros (9.3 billion Gourdes) over a period of 3 years. The program is a continuation and consolidation of the previous budget support program that ended this year. The SBC-II targets the implementation of deep institutional and economic reforms measured on the basis of indicators jointly agreed with the Haitian authorities on customs and tax policies, the capacity for statistical measures of policies, the fight against corruption, the performance of administrations and their organization, among others.
