Haiti - Politic : Launch of a rural electrification project in the North 04/07/2018 10:14:39
Representatives of the Energy Unit of the Ministry of Public Works, of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Ambassador of Japan accredited to Haiti Yoshiaki Hatta, in the presence of local authorities, grassroots community organizations, community associations women, civil society and public / private sector partners officially launched the project "Rural Electrification and Empowerment of Women" whose headquarters for the Great North is located in Cap-Haitien. This project, funded by the Government of Japan and implemented in partnership with UNDP, aims to provide electricity in rural areas outside the network of Electricity of Haiti (EDH), through the establishment of 5 micro electric grids operating from renewable energies and to also train the beneficiary inhabitants for an adequate management of these systems. This project also aims to reduce the urban / rural divide, strengthen social cohesion and contribute to greater gender equality through the direct involvement of women throughout the implementation of this project.
