Haiti - Immigration : A troubling nomination in Dominican Republic
This week, Leonel Fernandez made several nominations of senior officials, whose the new Director of Immigration to the Directorate General of Migration. José Ricardo Taveras was named to replace the admiral Sigfrido Pared Perez. A nomination seen as a sign of hardening of the Dominican migration policy face to Haiti.

José Ricardo Taveras [Deputy for the province of Santiago de los Caballeros] is the Secretary General of the National Progressive Party Force (FNP) whose the anti-Haitian discourse is publicly known.

Taveras is considered as a close of the deputy Pelegrin Castillo who has built his political capital on the "anti Haitianism" and which is one of three founding members of the FNP with Marino Vinicio Castillo, special adviser of the President Leonel Fernandez and the lawyer and political analyst Vinicito Castillo.

Some may see in this nomination, a certain form of provocation from the Dominican Republic, however, it seems more probable, that this nomination is the result of a bargaining between the "Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) [ruling party] and the FNP in anticipation of electoral support at the next presidential election in Dominican Republic...

In all cases, with more than 8,000 repatriation of our compatriots since the beginning of the year, this nomination is not made to create a relaxed atmosphere.
