Haiti - FLASH : National shame, Colombia refuses visas to our Grenadiers (es)
Departing for Colombia for the 23rd Central American and Caribbean Games held in Barranquilla 10 players and 4 Haitian officials are stranded in the Dominican Republic for three days because of a visa problem that did not deliver the Colombian authorities.

There are 7 players in the women's football team: Nadyne Millien, Sterikove Joseph, Wagnelda Millien, Elisabeth Brivil, Little Brother Betina, Nahomie Ambroise and Nancy Lindor; 3 players from the men's Olympic team (Ronaldo Damus, Jeudy Johnson and Benoît Davensley) and four officials Josaphat Jean Claude (coach), Pierre Chery (Physical Trainer), Johnny Michel (Equipment Manager and Adelph Pierre (Team Manager).

On Monday, leaving the FIFA Goal Center of the Croix des Bouquets for a transit, in the Dominican Republic, part of the Haitian delegation spent the night at the Dominican Olympic Center and had to travel Tuesday from Santo Domingo to Punta Cana to take the plane to destination of Bogota. It was in Santo Domingo that Colombia's refusal to issue visas was noted. Hosted in a hotel near the Punta Cana airport with great difficulties to feed (without local support or logistics), the Haitian delegation is living a nightmare, especially as the Colombian authorities are multiplying the dilatory additional documents such as a birth certificate and parents' certificate, certificate of baptism, etc... to people who have always traveled around the world without any problem. Moreover, even if visas were issued today, there are no more seats in planes bound for Colombia, deplores the Haitian officials.

Since the announcement of the first difficulties of Visas, football officials in Haiti, had deemed unfriendly the attitude of Colombians and wished for the sake of dignity, the Haitian Olympic Committee (COH) gives up to the games, but they refused and now it looks like a national shame.

The Haitian Football Federation (FHF) explains "What is surprising is that since January the COH had demanded that all documents and it is bewildering that it is at this moment that one asks for new document to issue these visas. FIFA and CONCACAF, who were trying to play the good offices apparently, wash their hands because the CONCACAF said that the fault is in Haiti who asked for visas too late, only the past week, adding that Haiti instead of paying, had requested courtesy visas, which requires a long process."

The FHF wants the part of the delegation already arrived in Barranquilla to be repatriated to Haiti saying "it is impossible for a team to play in competitions with athletes stuck for four days without training and malnourished."

Recall that the women's tournament begins Thursday, July 19 to end on the 30th, our Grenadières led by Stephen Defour were to play in Group B their first game against Nicaragua on July 20 before playing Mexico on the 22nd and finish the group stage. against Trinidad & Tobago at the Moderno stadium. While the Grenadiers of Josaphat were to compete on July 21 against El Salvador, then Venezuela on 23 and Mexico on 25 at the Stadium Romelio Martinez for the first phase of the football tournament.

The FHF recalls that it has a great international influence and thanks to this credibility sends its teams to the four corners of the world without great difficulty and that it had made a great effort to mount two very good teams likely to do honor to Haiti despite the fact that the COH "did not provide any assistance for the preparation of the two selections, worse did not provide any equipment or even uniforms" wishing that the COH heard reason and repatriated all the players to put an end to this painful and humiliating situation.
