Haiti - Justice : More than 30 rapes of minors in the Center

The Juvenile Protection Brigade (BPM) is concerned about the increase in cases of juvenile rape since the beginning of the year. Police officer Wesler Appolon, spokesperson for the National Police of Haiti (PNH) of the Department of the Center, describes as a real plague these criminal acts on children claiming "32 cases of rape on minors in 9 months. This deserves sustained attention" advocating much harsher penalties against rapists. He explains that such acts occur because of a lack of police force, which leaves several areas of the department unprotected and he asks the central authorities concerned, to intervene without delay to fight against this Scourge

During the first nine months of the year, the police arrested more than twenty people involved in wrongdoing against minors in the communes of Cerca-Carvajal, Thomassique and Thomonde. "Tifanm Jean" (55 years old) the head of a network specialized in the kidnapping of minors was arrested and accused of being the thinking head and the accomplice of individuals who for two days kidnapped, sequestered and raped a minor 12 years, at home," said Appolon adding "These individuals are dangerous they participate in the kidnapping of schoolchildren and aggravated rape on minors among others," announcing that he expected to increase the number of patrols during the day nearby schools to better protect students.
