Haiti - Environment : Towards the development of the Green Climate Fund Country Program

As part of the Haiti Preparedness Program for access to the Green Climate Fund, the Ministry of the Environment has launched in Jérémie, the regional consultation workshops for the elaboration of the Country Program. These workshops bringing together the representatives of the education sector, the private business sector, local authorities, local and international NGOs from the Department of Grand'Anse aimed to identify the ideas of priority projects ready to be submitted to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), for financing.

These regional consultations, led by the Climate Change Directorate of the Ministry of the Environment with the support of the consultants of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), were an opportunity to recall the harmful effects of climate change on the economy of the country and to present national strategy documents for the fight against climate change including the National Action Plan for Adaptation (NAPA) and the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).

At the same time, the Ministry of the Environment, the designated national authority for the Green Climate Fund, is working hard with national institutions to facilitate their accreditation to the GCF. This important step will allow Haiti to have direct access to the Green Climate Fund for its adaptation and mitigation projects.

Recall that the Green Climate Fund Country Program is a document that identifies national climate change priorities in terms of projects / programs and investment. The consultation workshops will take place in the ten departments of the country until October 25th.
