Monday in the premises of the Court of Cassation, to the Champs de Mars as is the tradition, was held the opening ceremony of the new judicial year under the direction of Me Jules Cantave President of the Court of Cassation and of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ), in the presence of the highest authorities of the State, the justice sector and the international community, including President Jovenel Moïse, Prime Minister Jean Henry Céant, Presidents of the Senate Joseph Lambert and of the Chamber of Deputies Gary Bodeau, Jean Roody Aly, the Minister of Justice and Jean-Marie Reynaldo Brunet, Minister of the Interior, members of the Diplomatic Corps, sitting and standing judges, lawyers and human rights activists ...

Speech of President Jovenel Moïse :

"After the well-deserved vacation of the past judicial year, it is time to resume work for the year 2018-2019. Every year at the same time, to satisfy a formal requirement, the judiciary power proceeds to the ostentatious and solemn opening of the Courts and Tribunals of the Republic which operate from the first Monday of October to the last Friday of July. I am pleased, in my capacity as Head of State, to speak at this reopening ceremony to which were invited all the actors evolving from near or far in the field of justice. The solemnity of this activity, which is very important for professionals in the judiciary and the law, is a highlight for litigants who are waiting for the distribution of justice. Yes, we need justice to consolidate the foundation of our nascent democracy and right the wrongs and injustice done to our fellow citizens.

Justice is done for men and not men for justice. We must do everything possible to allow the population to have access to a large distribution of justice [...]"
