On the initiative of the Department of Support to Private Education and of Partnership (DAEPP), a workshop on the new regulatory framework of the system of accreditation of schools of the Republic ended yesterday Wednesday at the Decameron hotel.

Technical and departmental directors, managers of the central office and decentralized services of the ministry participated during 3 days in this important workshop around an important element of the governance of the educational sector : the accreditation of private schools.

It was essentially, after discussions, to validate three key documents, developed by DAEPP with the support of the Consultant Roller St Pierre, to serve as a reference framework for the new guidelines for accreditation private schools :

• The Policy Statement on Accreditation of Private Schools ;

• The Accreditation Management Manual ;

• The practical guide to accreditation.

For Volvick Germain Charles, Director of DAEPP, this is to send a clear signal to all actors concerning the regulation of the private sector of education for the resumption of governance of the education sector specifying "Accreditation will be totally decentralized, school codes, license types, renewal of the license, support schools standards will be provided by the Departmental Directorates of Education."

Speaking on behalf of Pierre Josué Agénor Cadet, the Minister of National Education and of Meniol Jeune, the Director General of the Ministry, Denès Metellus, the Coordinator of the Pole Support, stressed the importance of this workshop for the improvement of the governance of the sector affirming "The future of the school depends on it because, the quality of the education passes by a better control of the schools of the Republic, hence the importance of the accreditation of the private schools."

Beyond the fundamental debates on the documents presented to the participants, the discussions were rich and informative dealing in particular with the problematic of the accreditation and the classification of the schools as well as the clarification of the concept nonpublic school versus private school.
