Haiti - Politic : Black and red flag, the OPC indignated at the affront suffered by the Haitian people

Renan Hedouville, Protector of the Citizen of the OPC, expresses his indignation at the affront suffered by the Haitian people Saturday, November 10, when during a political demonstration held in the city of Cap-Haitien, individuals raised the flag black and red at the foot of the Vertières Monument in defiance of the Constitution and laws of the Republic https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26107-haiti-politic-pitit-dessalin-makes-an-affront-to-the-haitian-flag.html

While recognizing the right of every citizen to freely express his opinions, Renan Hedouville believes that "this act constitutes an unacceptable affront, a slap bearing on the dignity of the Haitian people in the eyes of humanity. Recalling that the Constitution in its article 2 states "The national colors are : blue and red. And in its Article 3, it is detailed in detail our national emblem, adding that in its Article 52.1 the Constitution stipulates "Civic duty is the totality of the citizen's obligations in the moral, political, social and economic with respect to the state and the homeland. These obligations are: 1 - Respect the Constitution and the national emblem [...]"

Renan Hedouville recalls that the proclamation of this Constitution, adopted after the fall of the dictatorial regime of Duvaliers, is the fruit of years of struggles led by the craftsmen of the democracy, the journalists, the religious, the defenders of the human rights, the intellectuals of various horizons who paid with their lives, or who knew the prison, the dungeons of Fort Dimanche, the exile to advance the cause of democracy, the fight against the dictatorship in Haiti.

He recommends to the constituted authorities to take through the authorities concerned all the provisions that can facilitate a campaign of education for citizenship and patriotism, values that have almost disappeared because of the poor political governance installed in Haiti for several decades.
