Haiti - Politic : Management of the crisis, a failure of the Government

The former Ambassador of Haiti to the Dominican Republic and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Haiti (MHAVE) Edwin Paraison, believes that the Haitian Government has failed in managing the crisis affecting the economic life of Haiti.

He laments that Haitian leaders of any tendency, have failed to achieve "a great national conference" to guide the country towards a new Nation project. Paraison stresses that leaders must rise above clan interests in order to visualize this nation from another angle and urge President Moïse to restore citizens' trust in the State.

Moreover, he regrets that in his message to the Nation of 18 November https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-26154-haiti-vertieres-215th-message-to-the-nation-of-president-jovenel-moise.html President Jovenel Moïse did not address the main issues that are part of the political agenda of the opposition, stressing that "the Head of State bring little in his words for most people..."

Former Minister Paraison recalled that a year ago, Haiti had begun a process of consultations with a view to undertaking a major constitutional reform to change the political system in Haiti and that for this purpose, a commission chaired by Deputy Jerry Tardieu was created in the Lower House in March 2017 with a two-year term "One of the recommendations in the presentation of this Commission's preliminary report was to change the political system. The Chairman of the Commission stated that in all the consultations, there was a consensus on the fact that that we would begin this constitutional reform," said Paraison, pointing out that there were still several legal problems to be solved.

Moreover, about the project to build a wall on the border separating the two countries of the island, put forward by the Dominican radical opposition, he is convinced that this will not solve the problem of the illegal Haitian migration and asks Haiti and the Dominican Republic to establish coexistence rules because of their interdependence, suggesting, among other things, to provide border residents with a document allowing them free movement between the two countries.
