Mgr Guire Poulard, aged 69, progressive recognized figure in the Catholic hierarchy, who succeeded Mgr Joseph Serge Miot, who died in the earthquake of January 2010, was enthroned as new archbishop of Port-au-Prince, Saturday, March 26, 2011 at a ceremony held under tents in front of the site of the cathedral destroyed by the earthquake.

At his enthronement and the ordination of Auxiliary Bishop, Mgr Glandas Marie Eric Toussaint, in front of several thousand of faithful, religious and public figures, Mgr. Poulard has called his countrymen to support the reconstruction of countries devastated "More the time passes, the more we feel the urgent need for us Haitians to take the things in hand and not rely on external assistance" recalling the many promises that are slow to materialize. He also wished "a return to the tradition of generosity and solidarity".

The presence of both presidential candidates Mirlande Manigat and Michel Martelly has been noticed as much as the absence of René Préval and his wife for unknown reasons... Representatives of the Executive, personalities of the civil society, religious of various congregations and and committed laity had also made ​​the trip.

Recognizing the enormous responsibility that he has now, the auxiliary bishop Mgr Glandas, implored God's grace and requested the collaboration of all. "The mission of Mgr Guire Poulard is like Moses in his time. He will have negotiate with Pharaoh, with Yahweh and with the people" insisting on the "fundamental human qualities" of Mgr Poulard.
