Haiti - Earthquake 2010 : Ceremony of homage to the victims
Saturday in memory of the victims of the earthquake of January 12, 2010, President Jovenel Moïse accompanied by his wife Martine and the Prime Minister, Jean Henry Céant, in the presence of the President of the National Assembly Joseph Lambert, the President of the Superior Council of Police Judiciary (CSPJ) Me Jules Cantave, members of the Government of the diplomatic representatives and senior states of the National Police of Haiti and the Armed Forces of Haiti, participated in the commemorative events through a floral offering "In tribute to the victims of the earthquake of January 12, 2010, we laid a wreath at the foot of the monument erected for this purpose in St Christophe. Haiti will never forget the victims of this terrible disaster. On behalf of them, let us commit to building better and correctly" declared the Head of State adding "January 12, 2010, January 12, 2019, 9 years already 'Ayiti nou pap janm bliye'."

In his speech Senator Joseph Lambert, said "Today still, flowers on the site of St Christopher, for the memory of the victims. This devastating earthquake will not stop calling me until a lucid and proportional reaction comes."

On the same day, Moöse laid a wreath at the foot of the monument erected at the National Palace in memory of the agents and employees who were victims of the 2010 earthquake.

Commemorations which gave rise to several declarations and message, among others :

Canada :
"Today, January 12 marks the nine-year anniversary of the earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010 at 4:53 pm. We keep in our minds the victims and their families, as well as all those affected by the tragedy. Canada remains and remains with Haiti."

France :
"Nine years later, France does not forget the victims of January 12, 2010. It joins the meditation of the Haitian people and pays tribute to his courage."

PROMODEV :
Agronomist Talot Bertrand, Secretary General of the Haitian NGO "Promotion for Development" (PROMODEV), an organization committed to sustainable development in Haiti said "This January 12, 2019 is a day of mourning and a moment of commemoration of the tragic tremor earthquake that caused the brutal deaths of compatriots, relatives, friends and visitors in Haiti. PROMODEV remembers and will always remember the victims of January 12, 2010. The agricultural sector was also struck by this earthquake and several executives had died. Among the victims who have left us this sector are the agronomists : Jean Fritz Boutin, Jean Arsène Constant, Kernisan Chéry, Manès Lainé, Jackson Robert, Antonio Pierre-Lys, Christèle Destin, Jude Zéphyr, Julien Romain, Fruck Dorsainvil, Vladimir Dossous, Destin Chrisnel and Guy Frantz Lohier. PROMODEV is asking the Haitian people to commemorate this day of sadness with courage by drawing lessons learned and making a commitment to respect the principles of prevention against seismic risks in Haiti in order to avoid the replication of this misfortune.

Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations :
As part of the 9th anniversary of the earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, 2010, Mrs. Helen La Lime, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Haiti (SRSG) and Head of the United Nations Mission in Support of the Justice in Haiti (Minujusth), expressed its condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims, as well as its sympathies to the Haitian government and people.

"As we approach the transition to a United Nations presence without a peacekeeping operation by the end of 2019, it is incumbent upon us to continue working to fulfill the dreams of those who passed away in 2010. Let us redouble our efforts in their memory so that their children can live in a stete of law, where security, human rights and development benefit everyone," said the SRSG.
