Haiti - UN : The uncertainties of Ban Ki-moon on the future of the Minustah 02/04/2011 13:57:26 The problem arises, because the candidates of the second round in the presidential elections of March 20, 2011, irlande Manigat and Michel Martellly , have both suggested in their campaigns, the establishment of a military force in Haiti, in one form or another. An uncertainty recognized by the Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, in this report prepared for the next meeting of the Security Council this April 6, 2011. The report mentions the need to clarify "the political position [of the stablishment of a national military force in Haiti] in the coming months, [...] especially in the context of its effect on the present, the future and the mandate of the Minustah." However, the UN chief ensures that the Mission will continue its efforts to "strengthen the National Police of Haiti (PNH) and increase its size in accordance with the mandate of the Security Council." Recall that the effective of the Minustah, has increased of 3,500 soldiers and police in February 2010 by decision of the Security Council following the earthquake and that so far, its workforce on Haitian territory, amounting to 12,000 men.
