In the last five years (2014 to 2018), Haitians bought 11.44 million US dollars worth of sour lemons (creole lemon) from the Dominican Republic : 2014 (2.06 million), 2015 (1.86 million), 2016 (1.46 million), 2017 (1.36 million) and 2018 (4.70 million) followed by United States (1.3 million US dollars), Germany (831,000 dollars) and Puerto Rico (769,000 dollars) according to the Department of Agricultural Statistics of the neighboring Republics. Sales in 2018 saw a significant increase in Haitian demand, with sales of $4.7 million compared to $1.4 million in 2017. The Dominican Republic exports this type of lemon to more than 40 countries. Pérez, one of the producers of this type of lemon, which supplies the Haitian market via the sales made on the binational market in Jimaní, underlines that despite the Haitian Government's ban on the export of citrus fruit from the Dominican Republic https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14316-haiti-agriculture-government-denies-new-bans-on-dominican-products.html , Haitian traders cross the border to buy each day of market, several hundred bags of 140 lbs of these lemons that they then transport to Haiti.
